This has been a good weekend!  The weather here is great!  We went over the Edgewater to visit Larry's x-in laws.  We stayed overnight and this morning Larry performed at the church where Don is interim pastor.  He really had a good time.  He loves to perform and he is very good at it!

Florida is spectacular!  Saturday night we ate at a restraunt on the intercostal waterway (which looked like a big river to me).  But while we having dinner dolphins were swimming and jumping in the waterway!  Along the highway, over and back, we saw several great egrets, some sandhill crane and double-crested cormorant!

Today we enjoyed the nature side of Florida and it was great!  We went to Blue Springs State Park and saw the manatees!  This is spring that feeds into the St John River.  This spring is warmer than the river or ocean and the manatees have to stay in water above 66 degree to survive.  Just by walking down the boardwalk we saw lots of manatees, several alligators and tons of fish.

We also went on the St. John River boat tour.  This lasted two hours and was also great.  We saw alligators, Great Blue Herons, Little Blue Herons, yellow-crowned Night Heron, Great Egret, snowy Egret, Anhinga, Double Crested Cormorant and many others!  At one point, we were right beside the reeds and in the reeds were a bunch of baby gators.  It was all very cool!!  I recommend this park to anyone who is every near that area.

01/24/10

Well, I have been retired one month as of last Saturday!  And we have been in Florida one month as of today!!  Nothing too exciting today.  The weather was great again.  Sunny with a breeze and the high was about 70.

I have decided to tell you a little about the life here in the RV Park.  Most of the folks have been coming here for years.  They are little traditions, for lack of a better term, that the "regulars" all follow.  For example everybody is early for everything!  I mean if a group is coming in to perform at 7:00, you had better planned on getting to the hall by 6:30!  So far this is true for every event from the 1:00 lawn boccie game to church on Sunday mornings.  I have decide this is why old people have dinner so early.  So they can eat and clean up and get to there seats by 6 or 6:30!!

Most of the residences are very open and friendly.  That is until you try to change something.  Like in our excise class.  We do mat excises to a tape one the residences made probably 5 to 8 years ago.  In fact the lady who made the tape has gone on to meet her maker!  Oh and btw when I say tape I don't mean a VCR tape, this is a cassette tape with her calling out the excises and the counts. I have a DVD excise program for seniors and I suggested that we use it sometimes.  Wrong thing to do.  Several ladies informed me, nicely I might add, that no thanks they had this tape that they always use and they like it that way.  So I go to class every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and we do the same routine everyday, which is really okay.

01/21/11

The past two days have been great!  The highs were close to the 80's and the sun shined all day!  Well, after 10 am, which is usually the case for Florida.  Wednesday we got up and went to exercise class and then it was so nice I went to aquacise right after that.  Aquacise was harder than I thought. My head was sweating and I got pretty hot.  We had to run the grocery store one day, but both afternoons I went down to the pool and sunned.  Yesterday, Larry actually came with me.  We both got a little burned but don't worry we use our sunblock.  We played boccie ball and rode are bikes and generally enjoyed the weather.

Everybody in the park was out!  Even Elouise finally took off her parka!  Eloise is this little, very, very thin lady, that plays boccie almost everyday. And since we have been here she has always worn this purple parka with a fur trimmed hood.  On some on the warmer days she would at least unzip it and put the hood down.  But yesterday was the first day she actully took it off and played wearing only a sweater!

Today's weather story is a little different. It is raining, but still in the 60's.  Later today we are planning to have a cook-out (weather permitting) and then the park is showing a movie with free popcorn and drinks.

God is good!

01/16/11

This day Bob and MF flew back to Evansville.  It was very good to see them!  Saturday, we went over to Mt. Dora downtown.  It was very quaint, but we did not get to see much of it because Bob & MF were in negation try to buy a new fifth wheel and the salesman finally made them an offer they could not turn down.  We had to return to SP, so they could go to Tampa and complete the paper work.

The day started off cloudy, but the afternoon was sunny and warm.  Larry, Mike and I played 9 holes on a little executive course.  It was pretty much a cow pasture and the greens were pretty bad too, but it was good to get out on the course again.  It was amazing that we were in shorts and t-shirts playing golf on Jan 16th!

Larry and I saw two new birds today.  The first was a Tricolored Heron.  This is standing in the edge of a pond fishing for food.  The second was on the golf course and it was a Semipalmated Plover.  This  bird looks similar to a killdeer, but smaller.

01/12/11

Yesterday was a nature day!  In the afternoon, while playing boccie ball, one of my team members pointed out a bald eagle flying around overhead.  I could distinctly see the white feathers on his head.  A few minutes later, Larry called for me to come up to where his group was playing.  When I ran up to where he was he pointed out another bald eagle roosting in a pine tree only about 30 feet above our heads!  It was thrilling to see an eagle that close up.

Later in the day, Larry and I were walking along the creek in the back of the park.  We were planning on going into the storage are behind it to look for any kind of eagles or eagle nest, because other residence had told us that the eagles had nested back there in the past.  Before we got there I spotted a big bird standing just on the other side of the creek.  While we were standing there trying to decide if it was hurt or was something just hanging out of it month, another big bird swooped down the creek right in front of Larry and I.  I was really startled and Larry must have been too because it said that it kind of remind him of Jurassic Park!  About that time a lady out walking her dog, told us that the birds were Great Blue Herons and in fact the ones beak was broken and hanging down.  She told us she was planning to see if she could find a rescue for herons and give them a call. Then we ask her about the eagles nest. She told us there are many bald eagles in the area, but she had never see them nest near the park.  BUT,  she did point out a very large Great Horned Owl's nest!  I bet it is about 4 x 4.  She also told us that last summer she saw owl chicks in the nest!  How cool!

Larry and I walked on and he notice a herd of cows across the fence in a pasture.  He pointed out a new born calf to me.  We watched it for a while and I was a little worried because the calf seem to not be able to find its mother. In a few minutes though we saw the calf find her mother and start nurse!

I was a very good day!

01/10/11

Not too much going on these past few days. Saturday and Sundays are the slowest days here at the RV Resort.  Less activities on the calendar.

Yesterday, Larry's daughter and her family came for a short visit.  They got an idea of our new life.  Jennifer and Zander thought it was pretty cool.  The other two were not as excited.

Today is warm, but the rain has started an looks like it will stay all day.  No bocce today!

7 days before we begin our new adventure

Hi, my name is Gail.  Many of you of course already know me.  My husband, Larry, and I are about to start a new phase of our life.  We are going to sell our house and most of our possessions and live full time on the road.  We have a 37ft Fifth Wheel and a Ford truck and on December 22, 2010 we are heading out on our first trip.  This will literally be the first day of our new life!

Stay tuned for updates on our adventures.

Jan 3rd

Today was very sunny, but kind of cool for Florida. Nothing exciting today.  We went to excise class this morning and then showered up.  Later in the day we went into town to get items so Larry could fix up the door.  Now we don't have to slide the panel back to open the door.  We have a handle inside and we just have to pull the knob inside and it pulls down the handle.  It is great and Larry did a good job!

New Year - New Life!

Today is the first day of 2011!  Last night we went to a dance here at the RV Resort.  It was quite fun!  I decided that life in an RV Park is like living at an amusement park.  I love going to amusement parks and watching the families go by.  It is always so great to see whole families out enjoying the day together and almost all of the time everybody from grandpa to the baby are happy as can be!  That is what I thought of last night as I watched all the couples, young and old (mostly old) just having a great time and loving each other and life!

I can only hope that Larry and I will have  a long and healthy retired life and be able to enjoy life like a lot of the couples here!

More to come latter!!
